About me
I am Brazilian, piscean and traveller. Working as a yacht stewardess gives me the oportunitty to be close to the ocean, which is where I always wanted to be. This blog is the result of a desire to share my life with people who are seeking for a new adventure and also to help those who cross my path. Welcome to my world!
Things you should know before working on a yacht
Although the profession of a Yacht Stewardess is not so widespread around the world, there is a big market for us in almost every continent.

Although the profession of a Yacht Stewardess is not so widespread around the world, there is a big market for us in almost every continent.

Seasons around the world follow an almost meteorological calendar. I will give you an example to make it all a bit clear: we stayed in Fiji until beginning of November. Even though is winter there, the average temperature was around 28°, however it is also cyclone season, and for this reason we have to move on to another country, that time we headed to Australia.

The same happens around the world, The USA Season (Including Caribbean), the best period to enjoy the local summer is from September/October to March/April. The Mediterranean Season from May/June to September/October. By all, it means that each region has its best season. But this is a topic to be explored in another article.

I’ll try to explain a bit more about the job so if you decide that this kind of lifestyle is for you, you will know what to look for.
There are two types of jobs on yachts, the private ones, where the guests are the owners and friends (this is my case). And the charter ones where people rent a yacht - like a beach house - for a while.

Then there’s the sailing yachts or motor. The Sailing yachts to go further without refueling, as it is moved by the wind. Now, on motor yachts, the distance will always be restricted by the availability of fuel.

The number of crew depends on a few factors. Charter yachts always have a larger team than private ones. Why? The service needs to be the best possible, as the person has paid for all that luxury holiday. The size of the yacht is also a determining factor, as it shall have beds for the entire crew.

Those who work on yachts can have a full-time job, a seasonal position (4-6 months) or a day work kind of contract.

In my case, the contract is annual. I work on a private motor yacht. We are three crew members - captain, chef and stewardess – working hard to give our lovely guests the best holidays they could ask for.

Hi Craig, that's a great question. Yes, there are a few stewards out there - I'm working with one at the moment and he is great!!! - perhaps not as many as stewardess, but yes I often see jobs that require male due to cabin arrangements. :)
